The Race Face Tempest Jacket
Review by Jon Angermeier
The transition months of fall and spring often times can dish up some highly unpredictable weather. When the weather is cool and wet and the air is thick, a lightweight highly breathable jacket that protects you from the elements is the go to piece of gear for a quick shuttle or an all day epic. The Race Face Tempest Jacket fits this profile perfectly.
Race Face offers a wide variety of technical ride apparel. For Fall/Winter ’10-’11 they have added the Tempest Jacket to their line-up. The Tempest boasts an array of technical trail features all styled up to be street worthy. A stretchy soft-shell construction provides a barrier from wind and rain while maintaining a non-restrictive lightweight physique.
I have always hated wearing jackets while riding. A lot of times you end up getting just as soaked and cold as you would with out them. The Tempest solves this by wicking all moisture away from the body, keeping you nice and dry. Some stank issues may arise for this reason, but it’s nothing a quick wash can’t fix. Out of the wash it is ready to hit the streets and cruise to the bar. The reflective taping will keep you safe on the road to or fro. Though the Tempest is only water resistant it is a perfect lightweight jacket for cooler or wetter days where the jersey or the tee just isn’t enough. The Tempest has quickly become my favorite jacket.
