Deity Dirty 30 Handlebar - Review

Review by Mike Kazimer

One of the original entrants into the wide-bar arena, Deity's Dirty 30 handlebars have become a modern classic. Made from 7075 T6 butted aluminum and weighing in at 304 grams, the 760mm (30inch) wide Dirty 30 is designed to be strong enough for downhill use but light enough to put on an all-mountain bike. More than just a trend, wide handlebars bars give the rider additional control, especially on downhill sections of trail. They let you ride in a more natural feeling position, with your hands closer to shoulder width apart. Of course, smaller riders may not need as wide a bar, which is why most handlebars are able to be trimmed down.

Comfortable was the word that came to mind after my first ride with the Dirty 30. The 25mm rise, 9 degree bend and 5 degree upsweep put my hands in just the right place. I'm pretty picky about my handlebar setup, but the Dirty 30 felt great as soon as I bolted it on. I did notice a little more flex than I'm used to; if I pulled or pushed heavily on one side of the bar I was able to see it move vertically. This didn't seem to be detrimental when riding; if anything it probably made for a smoother ride, but bigger riders may want something a bit stouter.

Available in black, green, purple, red and white, there's a color option to complement any bike's paint job. The finish on the test pair was excellent – the mix of bead blasted and polished anodized accents was a nice touch, and simplified brake and shift lever setup. Even after weeks of hard riding the bars remain scratch and scuff free. If you're still on narrow bars, or are in need of an upgrade, the Deity Dirty 30 bars are worth a look.
